What is Adelaide Webmail?
Adelaide Webmail is a The University of Adelaide email account service that can be accessed using a University. If another student is already enrolled at the University with the same name as you, your email address may contain your middle name initial.
The University of Adelaide email is integral to everyday life at the University, everything from enrolment and course information to general University updates are sent via your email account.
The University of Adelaide Webmail Login
To login to Adelaide Webmail you will need a The University of Adelaide username and password so you can get it first and login to Adelaide Webmail by following the steps given below.
- First open this Adelaide Webmail webpage link.
- Enter your username and password in the field.
- Tick on ‘Remember me’ option.
- Then click on the ‘Sign in’ button.
Forgot Adelaide Webmail Login Password
- First open this webpage link id.adelaide.edu.au/signin/forgot-password.
- Enter your Email or Username in the field.
- Then click on ‘Reset Via Email’ option.
- You will be notified on your email account.
The University of Adelaide IMAP and POP server settings
You now need to complete several configuration settings to ensure your Adelaide account interacts correctly with mail server.
- Your account should be selected in the ‘Mail and Newsgroups.
- Account Settings’ window. If it is not, select it from the list of accounts on the left of the window.
- Under your account name, which should be your e-mail address is an option ‘Server Settings’.
- Click on this option, and in the main window:
– tick ‘Use secure connection (SSL)’.
– tick ‘Check for new messages at startup’.
– you would normally also tick ‘Check for new messages every xx minutes’ and change the time to a figure which suits you 1 minute is normally ideal.
– you may choose to increase this time if you are connecting to mail server via a modem.
– next to ‘When I delete a message:’, select ‘Move it to the Trash folder’.
– tick ‘Empty Trash on Exit’.
– you can change some of these settings if you know what they do and are more comfortable with a different configuration. - Click the ‘Advanced’ button.
- If you are a staff member, your IMAP server directory will be /home/elecstaff/login_name/mail.
- If you are a postgraduate student, your IMAP server directory will be /home/elecpg/login_name/mail.
- Tick ‘Show only subscribed folders’ and untick ‘Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages’.
- Click OK.
- Finally, click ‘Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left panel and make the following settings:
– server name should already be mail.eleceng.adelaide.edu.au.
– port: 25.
– tick ‘Use username and password’ and enter your username in the box below.
– under ‘Use secure connection’, select ‘TLS, if available’ or ‘If available’. - Click OK.
Congratulations! Your Adelaide e-mail account is now set up and ready to send and receive mail. You may like to send a test email to yourself to confirm that sending and receiving mail is working correctly.
How forward Adelaide student email to another email account?
You can forward Adelaide Email account Student Office 365 email to another email address using the following steps:
- Log into Student O365 account.
- Open ‘Outlook’.
- Click on ‘Settings’ (gear icon) near top right.
- Choose ‘View all Outlook settings’ at the bottom of the Settings panel.
- Click on ‘Mail’.
- Click on ‘Forwarding’.
- Select ‘Enable forwarding’.
- Type in the email address where you would like to send your student email.
- If this is not selected, emails will not be saved in your university O365 mailbox. Some senders do not allow their messages to be forwarded, so selecting ‘Keep a copy of forwarded messages’ ensures you will get the message.
- Click on ‘Save’.
Setup an Adelaide Email Rule for CAPS Notifications
CAPS generates many email notifications for different tasks within the casual engagement and payment process. To assist managing these notifications an email rule can be created in Microsoft Outlook.
This can be done through either the installed version of outlook on your computer, or via Outlook Web Application.
Outlook desktop
- Open Outlook.
- Create a new folder by right clicking the current folder and selecting New Folder.
- Choose a useful name for this folder, e.g. CAPS emails.
- Select the email that you would like a rule setup for. Then Select Rules > Create Rule in the Home Menu.
- By selecting the email, this will auto fill the rule details.
- Select Subject Contains. This should auto populate from the subject of the email, Change if required.
- Then select Move item to folder then select the folder that you previously created.
- Click OK.
- This should then move any future emails with the same subject line to this folder before they reach the inbox.
Outlook Web Application (OWA)
- Sign into owa.adelaide.edu.au.
- Create a new folder by right clicking the current folder and selecting Create New Subfolder.
- Choose a useful name for this folder, e.g. CAPS emails.
- Select Setting Icon > Mail > Inbox and Sweep Rules.
- Select + symbol under Inbox Rules section.
- Add details to New Inbox Rule in the field.
- Click OK.
- This should then move any future emails with the same subject line to this folder before they reach the inbox.
How to Email Security or Maintain Adelaide Webmail?
As part of the ongoing security focus at the University of Adelaide, email protection has been put into place by Mimecast.
The Mimecast system is robust, performs sophisticated filtering, and integrates well with other recent security updates.
There are three security features Mimecast performs at the University of Adelaide:
- Email filtering
- External email warnings
- URL protection
Email filtering
If an incoming message is considered borderline suspicious (sometimes called graymail), it will be held for you by Mimecast and you will receive an automated email asking you to make a decision about its safety.
Check each message carefully and choose one of the following options, which will apply to all future emails from this sender:
- Permit / Permit – all you agree that the email are from safe/recognised senders and can be released.
- Release / Release – all you allow this/these email to be released once from this sender.
- Block / Block – all always block messages from this or all of these senders.
External email warnings
Sophisticated cyber criminals attempt to feign emails to appear as if it is internal and official, often impersonating Executive, IT or HR staff. Mimecast will highlight when an email is sent from outside the University with a warning banner.
The aim is to increase your awareness as a user of potentially harmful content embedded in email, and malicious links found in attachments.
URL protection
Malicious parties often attempt to entice users to click on links in emails that may cause harm to your computer and the organisation. They may lead you to a fake login site, or force downloading and running of a malicious file.
