What is Alfred Webmail?

Alfred Webmail,”webmail” checkbox at Alfred prefs, there would be a Bit dropdown menu with”gmail, hotmail, yahoo, fastmail, custom” as options which covers the Hottest and would still allow for other providers.

Email is your main form of communication at Alfred University. Allows access to your email on a regular basis to stay up to date on important information. Their campus email fee 365 is used to power email accounts.

Alfred Webmail Log in

To navigate to the Alfred State College email system, the consumer can go to webmail.alfredstate.edu or Execute the following:

• First Open this webpage.
• Select “my.AlfredState”.
• Once redirected, select “Webmail” dropdown, then select “Student”.
• Choose Sign in with your organizational account.
• And enter your password.

How to Create a new Alfred e-mail on Microsoft?

• To make a new email in the live.com mailbox, click on the new button situated on top of the screen.
• This will open a new window where you are able to write your message.
• You can also send a message if you do not know the address.
• Click the”To” button and they will bring up the colleges address book.
• From here you are able to search for the name of the person you would like to send an email to and it will offer you their e mail address.

Using office products from live account

• One of the benefits of having Live@edu accounts for the student is they can produce files right from your web interface.
• Students can quickly create a Word file, PowerPoint presentation, Excel workbook or One Note notebook by clicking on the dropdown menu.
• When developing a new document this may bring the student to their SkyDrive, which will be the point where the new record will be saved once they’ve named it.
• They will then have the ability to get their SkyDrive from any computer with an internet connection.
• The home screen for the SkyDrive.

Set up Live.com E-mail on a Smartphone or Tablet

Exchange ActiveSync

• If you want to use Exchange ActiveSync to receive email on your Smartphone or tablet computer you’ll have to enter these settings.
• Username: username@alfredstate.edu you need to make sure you put “@alfredstate.edu” or it will not allow you to connect.
• Password: Your ASC NetID.
• Server: Outlook.com.
• Enable SSL, and accept all certificates.

POP/IMAP

To connect to your Live.com email account with POP or IMAP you will need to configure the following server settings.

POP Settings:

• Server name: pod51011.outlook.com.
• Port: 995.
• Port Enable: SSL.

IMAP Settings:

• Server name: pod51011.outlook.com.
• Port: 993.
• Active Enable: SSL.
• SMTP: (Used as the outgoing mail server).
• Server name: pod51011.outlook.com.

How to Started with Email on Alfred Webmail?

Your emails can be accessed via webmail or you can always see through this link under the quick links in the main navigation menu of the MyAU official website.

Log in with your campus email address and password given to you.

Activate Email Account

If you’re new to Alfred University and haven’t activated your email account you’ll have to do so before accessing your emails.

New Student Activation Process LINK

• If you are a new incoming student you will have to go through the new student accounts activation process in case you have not already.
• Please be advised, you must have made your Deposit prior to activating your account. You can view the Accepted Students checklist page for a guide to completing this one step.

New Faculty/Staff Activation Process LINK

• If you are a brand new faculty/staff member you will work with the Human Resources office to get your account data installment.

Alfred University now uses Office 365 for email service. With this service you get more features and benefits than ever before. There are many benefits like installing Word application, Excel, Micro .ft Office fee products.

Combating Spam & Phishing Emails

Please remember that ITS won’t ever ask directly via email or via a linked web form for your username and password. Be exceedingly suspicious of any email that asks for authentication credentials or ANY protected private information.

You can always forward it to helpdesk@alfred.edu and confirm or ask if it is a legitimate email. they can directly assist you in verifying that the email is fraudulent.

Create Cell Phone Settings for Email

Using Default Email App

You are able to set up your alfred email on the Email program that came installed onto your phone. Use the following settings based on which type of mobile you have.

For Android

• Server Type: Exchange
• Username: Your Alfred email address (username@alfred.edu)
• Domain: ALFRED
• Password: Your Alfred email password
• User Secure Server: Make sure this is checked
• Enter Email Address: Your Alfred email address (username@alfred.edu)

For iPhone

How to Install Alfred Microsoft Office Products?

One of the benefits of powering campus email through Office 365 is the fact that all pupils & faculty/staff are allowed to set up Microsoft Office products on around 5 devices per user free of charge.

• Go to official website.
• Click Sign In.
• University can sign in with an email address and a valid password.
• If you have not had your email account setup yet, please see Getting Started with Email before attempting to set up Microsoft Office products.
• Once signed , you should see a dropdown for Install Office.
• Click the Other Install Options.

With this choice you will see the number of installs you have employed and on what devices, special options for installing office products on tablet computers & tablets, and a button to Install Office.

How do SPAMMERS get email address?

• Lots of people unknowingly register for bulk electronic postings.
• Addresses are gathered by websites and vendors.
• Clicking to start an ECard is one example of how this may occur.
• Addresses are chosen from company directories, email lists on internet pages, and also forwarded emails.

Guidelines for Password Security

Your passwords should be 12 characters long.

• Contain a mix of lower and upper case letters, numbers, and punctuation symbols.
• Be simple to remember so that you don’t need to write them down.
• Be in a position to be typed fast without considering the computer keyboard, making it harder for someone to watch your password looking over your shoulder.

Passwords should not

• Contain your login name in any form.
• Contain your first or last name in any kind.
• The Contain your spouse’s, child’s or pet’s name.
• Contain other common information regarding you including social security number, telephone number, license plate number, street or office address, etc..
• Contain more than 2 characters repeated in a row (eeaassyy) or two consecutive characters (abc123).
• The Contain a word found in English or foreign dictionaries.
• Be shorter than 12 characters.
• Be changed to the exact same password, for the sake of”change,” or be re-used longer; often than every fifth password shift.

Suggestions for creating a secure password

• Make up a unique sentence and use the letters of every word in the sentence.
• Then insert a number or punctuation.
• For example, “Woohoo! The Packers won the Super Bowl!” could make the password: W00!TPwontSB.
• A similar method is to have a line from your favourite book or song and use the first letter of every word.
• For example,”To be or not to be, that is the question” can eventually become Tbon2B,t1$t? .
