About CSIRO

CSIRO works with leading organizations around the world. With its headquarters in Canberra, CSIRO maintains more than 50 sites in Australia and France, Chile and the United States, employing about 5,500 people.

Scientific research funded by the federal government began 104 years ago in Fede Australia. The Advisory Council Science for Science and Industry was established in 1916 but is hampered by insufficient available finance.

CSIR developed rapidly and achieved significant success early on. Further legal changes in 1949 renamed the organization CSIRO.
