What is Deakin Webmail?
Deakin Webmail As a student, you receive your own deakin email address. All official correspondence of the University will be sent and received to your Deakin email address, so it is imperative that you check your email every few days so that you can get any important thing to you.
You’re able to easily access your email on any computer or mobile device using the Outlook application. You can log in to Outlook with your username and password as well as the one you use for Student Connect.
Deakin University Webmail Sign in
To sign up for Deakin University Webmail, staff or students must have a username and password, follow the steps below to sign in to Webmail.

- Enter your username and password.
- Then click on the ‘Signon’ button.
How to Change password using the Deakin webmail?
Each time you want to change your Deakin password, you need to log in to your mobile device e.g. You will also need to update your password for email, Wi-Fi and other services.
If you do not update your details, your account may be locked, as your mobile devices will constantly try and use your old password. Please close Outlook before changing your password for the same reason.
- First Open this webpage link.
- Click on the Deakin Change Password web page.
- Enter your Deakin username and current password.
- Choose whether you want to choose your own password or use a password generator.
- If you chose to create your own password, enter it in the new password and confirm the password fields.
- Click ‘Change Password’ option.
Change the password using Deakin Windows PC
Changing your password regularly is great for security and employees, so you are asked to change it every 180 days. Students do not have this requirement, but good practice is still available. It’s important to change your password when we remind you, because if you don’t, we won’t need to disable it to keep your account secure.
To change the password using Deakin Computer on campus
- First Close your Outlook.
- Press your keyboard to ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ and select Change a password option.
- Now change your password.
To change password using a Deakin computer off campus
- Close all open your programs.
- Connect to the VPN using your current password.
- Press your keyboard ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ and select Change a password option.
- Change your password.
- Disconnect from the VPN.
If you already changed your password via the Password webpage while off-campus:
- Log in to the laptop with your old password.
- Connect to the VPN with your new password.
- Simultaneously enter ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ and select Lock this computer.
- Simultaneously select ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ and enter your new password.
It’s strongly to change your password on campus whenever possible in order to prevent password sync issues.
Changing Deakin password using a Deakin Mac
This can be done if you want to change your password to off-campus by connecting to any Cisco AnyConnect VPN. To establish a secure (VPN) connection with Deakin using these instructions Cisco AnyConnect (Mac OS X).
Once a secure VPN connection is established, complete the following instructions (under campus) to change your password.
- Ensure your all applications are closed.
- And click the ‘Apple menu > System Preferences’ option.
- Click Users and Groups icon.
- Under the password section and click Change Password.
- Update password as required, then click Change password.
- Log out, then log in again.
- When you log on again, you may be prompted by several applications to enter your new password.
- Tick ‘Remember this password in my Keychain’.
- Alternatively, after you’ve logged in, you can update each password in the Keychain individually:
– Open Finder, and click Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
– In the left-hand panel, under Keychains, select login option.
– Under Category and select Passwords.
– In the top-right corner, search for ‘deakin’.
– This will list all Deakin-related Keychain items.
– Double-click on a Deakin-related application, for example: Network share drive.
– Tick Show Password.
– At the next prompt, enter the new Password and click Allow.
– Now update the old password, then click Save Changes. - Deakin-related passwords have been updated.
Setup Deakin Email / Calendar on Microsoft Outlook (iOS)
Follow these steps to install Outlook for your iPhone or iPad device:
- Launch your Apple store and find and open ‘Microsoft Outlook’.
- The first application that appears will usually be Microsoft Outlook, published by Microsoft Corporation.
- It is very important that you do not download Microsoft Office, or any programs that try to impress Outlook as a product.
- If the application has not already been downloaded, tap the left ‘GET’ button, then accept the installation.
- If you’ve already downloaded Outlook, you’ll see a small cloud icon instead – tap it instead.
- Once the application is installed, open it to continue.
To connect your Deakin email account
- Enter your work or personal email address.
- If you have Microsoft software on your device, sign in to an existing account.
- And if this appears and it’s not your Deakin account and click ‘Add another account’ instead.
- Once you are satisfied, then select ‘Continue’ button.
- You will be presented with a Deakin Single Sign-On (SSO) page.
- Enter your Deakin username and password, then select the ‘Sign in’ option.
- Deakin staff are required to use MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) with Duo Mobile. Students do not need to do MFA.
- If you are a Deakin student who has not registered to use MFA, do so first.
- You will be prompted to ‘Send Me a Push’ or ‘Enter a Passcode’.
- If you have selected ‘Send Me a Push’, go to the Duo Mobile Apps or click on the Push notification.
- And ‘Approve’ the request.
- If you have signed in correctly, Outlook will begin to synchronise with the email server.
- You will also be presented with the option to add another account.
- The interested in adding another account, tap ‘Add’ option.
- If you are done, simply tap ‘Maybe Later’ to finish.If you have signed in correctly, Outlook will begin to synchronize with the email server.
How to Setup Deakin Email / Calendar on Android Device?
Follow the instructions below to install Outlook for Android device:
- First launch your Google Play and open ‘Microsoft Outlook’.
- And what this application looks like will usually be Microsoft Outlook, published by Microsoft Corporation.
- It is very important that you do not download Microsoft Office, or any programs that try to impress Outlook as a product.
- If the application has not already been downloaded and click the ‘Install’ button on the left.
- Once the application is installed, open it to continue button.
To get Deakin email account connected
- Open Microsoft Outlook on your mobile device.
- If this is your first time using the app, you will be presented with a welcome screen.
- Click on ‘Get Started’ to begin option.
- You enter your work or personal email address.
– You may also be prompted to sign in to an existing account if you have any Microsoft software on your device.
– If this appears and it isn’t your Deakin account, and click ‘Add Another Account instead.
– Once you are satisfied, then select ‘Continue’ button.
– For deakin students email: ‘username@deakin.edu.au’.
– For deakin staff email: ‘firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au’.
– You will be presented with the Deakin Single Sign-On (SSO) page.
– Enter your Deakin username, and Deakin password, then select ‘Sign On’ option. - All Deakin staff are required to use MFA (Multi-factor Authentication) with Duo Mobile. Students are not required to perform MFA.

- You will also be presented with the option to add another account.
- If you are interested in adding another account, tap ‘Add’.
- You are done, simply tap ‘Maybe Later’ to finish option.
How to Setup Deakin Email / Calendar on Windows?
Deakin Desktop computers are pre-configured with Outlook. These instructions only apply to non-Deakin computers, and assuming you already have Office (with Outlook) installed, the following guide on see Deakin email / calendar on windows.
- First Open your Outlook and click ‘File’ menu.
- Click Add account option.
- Enter your details as prompted:
– Your name: enter your firstname and lastname in the field.
– Email Address: enter your student or staff email address (e.g. username@deakin.edu.au).
– Password: choose your Deakin password. - And click Next button.
- Outlook will search for your email server settings, and advise you if successful and click Finish option.
- For manual server settings in the microsoft outlook.
- You will be prompted to sign on via Deakin’s Single Sign On (SSO) portal.
- If you are a staff member, you will also be required to use MFA to verify your credentials.
- Upon the restart of Outlook, you will be prompted to for your credentials.
- You can tick “Remember my credentials” if you would like Outlook to keep this information.
- Outlook will require some time to prepare for first use.
- It will still require some time to fully sync your mailbox and calendar, as indicated by the bottom bar.
- Once it is complete, you are ready to use Outlook.
Use a Single Student Email on Deakin University – Guideline
For a single student Email
- Click Tools and Classlist in the top navigation bar.
- Select the Student tab instead of All or Staff.
- Find the student and if you need you can enter their name in the ‘Search for’ field.
- And you can click the magnifying glass to find them.
- Click on the link to their name.
- A pop-up window will open.
- The student’s username (email address) will appear in the ‘To:’ field of the email.
- Insert a subject line, compose your message and add any attachments you want to include.
- Click Send Option.
- On-screen confirmation or message sent will appear.
For multiple students Email
- Click Tools and Classlist that appear in the top navigation bar.
- Student tabs are selected instead of all or staff.
- Increase the number of users displayed per page by changing from 10 pages to 20, 50, 100 or 200 at the bottom of the list before searching for students.
- Find students and you want to do this based on how many students you need to email:
– Find them using the search function in your browser by simultaneously clicking Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
– A small search field will appear at the very bottom or at the very top of the window.
– You can type student names and tick the boxes next to their profile as you go to the classlist.
– Select all students by clicking on the box at the very top of the list and then un-ticking the box next to the person you don’t want to include in the email. - Click on the email icon at the very top or bottom of the list.
- A pop-up window will appear.
- The student’s username (email address) will appear in the ‘BCC:’ field of the email.
- Insert a subject line, compose your message and add any attachments you want to include.
- Click Send Option.
- On-screen confirmation or message sent will appear.
Email a specific cohort of users all Geelong students
- Click Tools and Classlist in the top navigation bar.
- See if the Student tab is selected instead of All or Staff.
- You can choose to increase the number of users displayed per page by changing the page from 10 to 20, 50, 100 or 200 at the bottom of the list before searching for students.
- You can filter the list of users by group or section e.g. Campus location.
- View by View: Select sections instead of drop-down lists and users or groups.
- Click the Apply button.
- From the sections: Select a section from the drop-down list e.g. location – Geelong.
- Click the Apply button.
- If you want to email all the users in this group, click on the box at the very top left of the list to place a tick next to the names of all the students on the page.
- You can manually un-tick the demo student after selecting each.
Click Email at the very top of the list. - A pop-up window will open.
- The student’s username (email address) will appear in the ‘BCC:’ field of the email.
- Insert a subject line, compose your message and add any attachments you want to include.
- Click Send Option.
- On-screen confirmation or message sent will appear.
How to Use Deakin Email all students in the site?
- Click Tools and Classlist that appear in the top navigation bar.
- Click the Email Classlist option at the top of the page.
- One page will show a list of all users.
- And click on the ‘Send Email’ button.
- A pop-up window will open.
- The student’s username (email address) will appear in the ‘BCC:’ field of the email.

- Click Send option.
- On-screen confirmation or message sent will appear.
