What is JCU (James Cook University) Webmail?
For current JCU Webmail students have access to O365 (Microsoft Office 365) which includes a JCU Student Email account. (Example, The login for your O365 account is your email address: username@my.jcu.edu.au and your current password).
JCU Webmail access user&students webmail provider’s server, connect to the internet, connects to email account.
How to Access Email in Computer, Phone or Tablet?
If you are a current undergraduate or postgraduate student, you can access email by logging in on any computer in GATCF computer labs or Libraries in Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Thursday Island.
But, if you have an internet connection you can also access email from your personal computer at home, on campus or overseas. If using your own computer on campus connect to JCU Wireless Service (eduroam) before following the steps below.
- Log in to the computer.
- Open a supported Web Browser.
- In the address/location field type my.jcu.edu.au.
- Enter your JCU email address (username@my.jcu.edu.au) into the “Windows Live ID Field” and your password into the “Password Field”.
- Then select ‘Sign In’ option.
- If using a shared computer DO NOT select “Keep me signed in”.
- This launches O365. The first time you use O365 mail, a window will open asking you to choose a language and Time Zone.
- Make sure that you have selected the correct settings (Queensland users should choose UTC +10:00 Brisbane).
- Your account will open to your Email, with your email displayed on the left and messages to the right.
How to Setup JCU Webmail for Mobiles?
Use the below guide to set up student JCU email on User Apple iPhone, iPad or Google Android device.
1. Apple iOS
Start by turning on device (if it’s not already on) and make sure you are connected to Wireless or 3G before you start.
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap Add Account.
- Choose the option for Microsoft Exchange.
- Enter the following information:
– Email: Your full JCU email address
– Password: Issue JCU Computer Account Password
– Description: A name for you to identify the account i.e. JCU Email - Now tap Next and the device will begin Verifying.
- If your iOS Device can’t find your settings you will need to manually enter them.
- In the Server field type outlook.office365.com and then tap Next.
- Establish the Mail, Calendar and Contact options to ON then tap on Save.
- If you’re prompted to create a pass-code, tap Continue and type a numeric pass-code.
- If you don’t set up a pass-code, you can’t view your email account on your iOS Device.
- You can set up a pass-code later through Settings.
- Now select the Fetch New Data option.
- Set the Push to OFF then select your JCU Email Account from the list.
- For the Select Schedule option choose Manual.
- Return to your main screen by pressing the Home Button.
Warning: Setting the Mail, Contact and Calendar options to ON (option 8) may overwrite any contact/calendar data you have saved on your phone, but this depends on the options you’ve chosen for those settings.
The email account will now be configured on your Apple iOS device. It may take some time for it to sync all your emails, contacts and calendar entries.
Navigate back to your Home screen and choose Mail to access your JCU Emails.

2. Google Android
Start by turning on device (if it’s not already on) and make sure you are connected to Wireless or 3G before you start.
- Navigate to the Application Drawer and select Settings > Accounts > Add an account > Exchange.
- Enter your JCU Email Address and Password, tap Next button.
- Select Exchange account.
- This choice could be named Exchange Active Sync on some variations of Android.
- Change the Server field to outlook.office365.com, the Port and Security type will be automatically updated to the correct settings.
- And tap Next button.
- At the Remote Security Administration prompt select OK.
- Set your Inbox checking frequency as desired and change your Days to sync to All, tap Next;
- By default your account’s display name will be your JCU email address, change it now if you wish then tap Next.
- On the Activate Device Administrator screen tap Activate.
The email account is now configured on your Google Android device. It may take some time for it to sync all your emails, contacts and calendar entries.
Navigate back to the Application Drawer and choose Mail to access your JCU Emails.

What Should Student do to Manage a JCU Account?
JCU Webmail Account is key to accessing JCU online services. It is your responsibility to keep the details safe, as it enables staff and students to:
- Change your password.
- Reset a forgotten password.
- Update your alternative email address (used to reset a forgotten password or notify you of changes).
Warning: 1. Your Username and Password security are your responsibility so don’t share it.
2. No JCU staff member can tell you your current password and we will never request this information from you.
How Do Student Change Password?
- Open this webpage first to change your password.
- Then enter the JCU username and password.
- And must Account Profile using your JCU username and current password.
- Last Click your Login button.
While you are changing your password, we recommend that you add an alternative email address to your JCU Account Profile to assist with account recovery if you later forget your password.
When Should a Student JCU Password be Changed?
There are a few situations where JCU will require you to change your password, the below condition changed password include:
- Upon commencement with JCU.
- In case of a security event.
- At intervals as defined in the IT Access and Account Management Procedures.
Once your password has been synced across all systems you will be able to use the new password to log into JCU online services and computers.
What to Do If JCU Webmail Password is Hacked?
If you believe that your JCU account has been compromised (i.e. hacked), here are some simple steps to recover the account.
- Change your JCU password immediately.
- If unable to do this initiate the Forgotten Password process (you must have previously added an alternative email address in your Profile for this to be available).
- Notify the IT Help Desk.
- Check all important services for any changes, this includes:
– eStudent Details
– MY HR Online (Staff) (especially bank account details)
– Email (check sent email folder for anything new and check your Outlook rules)
