- Open Mac Mail.
- Select Other Mail Account (iCloud, Exchange, Google, Yahoo!, AOL) and then click Continue.
- Enter your Username and valid password.
- Then click on the “Sign in” button.
- It will say”unable to validate account name or password”, Enter the following details and click Subscribe.
– User Name: enter your email username
– Account Type: choose POP if on primary computer or IMAP if on secondary
– Incoming Mail Server: mail.onthenet.com.au
– Outgoing Mail Server: mail.onthenet.com.au - Click Mail and then Preferences.
- Click Advanced and change the settings as follows:
– Untick Automatically detect and maintain account settings
– Untick Use SSL
– Tick Allow insecure authentication - Choose General and Save when it prompts you.
- Click Accounts and in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down list select Edit SMTP Server List.
- Click Advanced and change the preferences as follows:
– Untick Automatically detect and maintain account settings
– Untick Use SSL
– Authentication: select Password
– Tick Allow insecure authentication
– Enter User Name and Password - Click OK.
- Close the Accounts window and then send an email to your own email address to check receiving and sending.

Set a Mailbox to OntheNet Webmail
If the user wants to add a new Mailbox for Business Mail service to OntheNet Webmail, follow these steps.
- Login to the administrator console via link.
- Select Domains and Accounts.
- Choose your domain name.
- Select Users.
- Select + Users to add user.
- Enter Mail Address.
- Issue password and confirm password (minimum 8 characters, mix of letters & numbers).
- Enter Display Name (if needed).
- Set Mailbox Quota.
- Select Add.
- Select Save Changes.
- Mailbox is now created.
To create another mailbox select Add one more? and repeat see steps.
Requirements for OntheNet DNS
If OntheNet sponsor your domain then we will make these changes upon setup of your Hosted Exchange environment. If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, you’ll need to get these modifications produced by your DNS administrator. This may be your web provider or it may be done by a web panel that you have access to.
It’s important that the following DNS changes are done for mail to work correctly.
MX Records
The following MX records are needed for your own domain. These configurations will cause all incoming mail to be directed to our email servers.
- IN MX 10 mx2.the.net.au
- IN MX 20 mx1.the.net.au
Autodiscover Record
For Outlook, iPhone, and Android (ActiveSync) to work properly, the following CNAME record is going to be required.
- autodiscover IN CNAME autodiscoverredirect.the.net.au
Webmail Record
Although not a requirement, you might also want to make a CNAME record for webmail.yourdomainname.com.au so it points to our server. To do so, the following will be required.
