What is UQ Webmail?
UQ Webmail which is provided to you students with 365 email account. Your UQ email is used when emailing university staff and to ensure that your email will not be blocked by spam filters. So that the recipient can verify it or get information about who you are. You keep your student email account after you complete your studies at UQ.
Your student email account has multiple email addresses. All these addresses go to the same mailbox, you do not need to check them individually. You can give any of these addresses to others and their messages can reach you.
UQ Webmail login
UQ is a students host email accounts on a cloud-based platform called Office 365. You should check your student email on a daily basis as it provides the main method of communicating on UQ university.
Each UQ student is provided with an email address. Accounts are provided by Supply and Information Technology Services.
Your student email address depends on the date you first enrolled in the UQ, follow the procedure below to login to UQ Webmail:
- First Open this webpage link.
- Enter your username and password.
- Then click on the “Login” button.
You will only have access to Outlook, not the rest of Office 365. You will also still be able to log into my.UQ to reset your Office 365 password.
UQ Webmail IMAP Settings
Most modern email software automatically configures your mail server settings when you enter your UQ account.
If your email software is out of date, you can manually enter the mail server settings using the following IMAP information:
- Server name: outlook.office365.com
- Username: uqusername@uq.edu.au
- Port: 993
- Encryption method: TLS
- Authentication method: OAuth2
SMTP setting information will appear automatically. POP settings are disabled by default.
How to Setup UQ email on Outlook Web App?
Home Information and Services Information Technology Email and calendars Every UQ staff member has an Outlook email address. It is used by Accounts Supply and Information Technology Services.
Here are two ways to verify your UQ email. You can access emails:
- On any device via the Outlook web application
- By a program installed on your computer or device
All users follow the same instructions for setting up an Outlook web application. Follow the procedure for your operating system to set up email by program on your Outlook device.
To set up webmail in the my.UQ dashboard for the first time:
- First Go to webpage link.
- Enter your UQ account username in the email address field, using the format (username@uq.edu.au). For example, xyz@uq.edu.au.
- And Click on ‘Next’ button.
- The UQ Authenticate screen will appear.
- Enter your UQ account username and password and click ‘Login’ option.
- Answer the ‘Stay signed in’ question.
- If you use a shared computer, it’s safest to answer ‘No’.
- Select ‘Outlook’ from the list of apps.
- Select your location and language settings.
- Click ‘Save’ to complete the process.
How to Setup UQ email on Outlook 365?
Set up email for the first time
An account set-up wizard will walk you through the process:
- Step 1
First Open your Outlook 365. - Step 2
Your UQ email account should be automatically detected. - Step 3
If not, enter your UQ account username in the ‘Email address’ field using the format username@uq.edu.au. - Step 4
Click ‘Connect’ devices. - Step 5
Select ‘Microsoft 365’ option. - Step 6
Enter your UQ username and password in the UQ Authenticate window. - Step 7
Then click ‘Login’ button. - Step 8
When ‘Account successfully added’ message appears, click ‘Done’ button.
Set up after changing your account
If you have changed your email address or your name or you have a problem with Outlook that cannot be fixed otherwise, you may need to delete it and remove your account and reset Outlook.
- Step 1
Submit an IT request to remove your profile. - Step 2
After your profile has been removed, open Outlook. - Step 3
Enter a profile name and select ‘OK’ button. - Step 4
This profile name can be anything. - Step 5
Your UQ email account should be automatically detected. - Step 6
If not, enter your UQ account username in the ‘Email address’ field using the format username@uq.edu.au. - Step 7
Click ‘Connect’ button. - Step 8
Select ‘Microsoft 365’ option. - Step 9
Enter your UQ username and password in the UQ Authenticate window. - Step 10
Then click ‘Login’. - Step 11
When ‘Account successfully added’ message appears, click ‘Done’ button.
Set up or Configure UQ Webmail on Apple
Two operating systems are selected for setting up or configuring UQ Webmail on Apple which can be seen in the following guide.
1. macOS for Mac
Outlook 365
- Step 1
Open your Outlook 365. - Step 2
Click ‘Get Started’ option. - Step 3
Click ‘Sign In’ button. - Step 4
Enter your UQ account username in the ‘Email’ field using the format username@uq.edu.au. - Step 5
Select ‘Continue’ button. - Step 6
Enter your UQ username and password in the UQ Authenticate window. - Step 7
Then click ‘Login’ button. - Step 8
Follow the prompts to complete the email account setup. - Step 9
Once setup is complete, click ‘Done’ option.
2. iOS for iPhone and iPad
Outlook
- Download the Outlook app from the App Store.
- Open the Outlook application.
- Enter your UQ account username in the ‘Email Address’ field using the format username@uq.edu.au.
- Tap ‘Add Account’ option.
- You’ll be taken to the UQ Authenticate portal.
- Enter your usual UQ account username and password and tap ‘Login’.
- Follow the prompts to finish setting up your account.
These instructions are for iOS 13
- Open the settings app on your device (cog icon).
- And select ‘Passwords & Accounts’ option.
- Tap ‘Add Account’, then ‘Microsoft Exchange’ option.
- Enter your UQ account username in the ‘Email’ field using the format username@uq.edu.au.
- Enter a description of the account in the ‘Description’ field, then tap ‘Next’ button.
- Tap ‘Sign In’ button.
- You’ll be taken to the UQ Authenticate portal. Enter your usual UQ account username and password and tap ‘Login’.
- Tap ‘Accept’ on the ‘Permissions requested’ screen.
- Select the apps you want to sync with your email account and tap ‘Save’ button.
How to Set up UQ email on Android Device?
If you are using an Android mobile, the following version of Android and the steps depending on your device may be slightly different on your screen, but you can configure or set up using it.
Outlook
- Download the Outlook app from the Google Play store.
- Open the Outlook application.
- Tap the ‘Home’ button.
- Select the cog icon to open settings.
- Tap the plus ‘+’ icon.
- Enter your UQ username in the email address field, using the format username@uq.edu.au.
- And click on ‘Continue’ button.
- Enter your UQ username and password in the UQ Authenticate windows.
- Then tap ‘Login’ button.
Gmail
- In Gmail, open ‘Settings’ and select ‘Users and Accounts’ option.
- Tap ‘Add Account’, then ‘Exchange’ option.
- Enter your UQ account username in the email address field, using the format username@uq.edu.au.
- And click on ‘Next’ button.
- Enter your usual UQ account password and tap ‘Next’ button.
- Tap ‘Next’ again on the following screen.
- Select ‘OK’ if a ‘remote security administration’ notice appears.
- Tap ‘Next’ to complete the setup.
How to Setup UQ email on IOS?
- Step 1
First Open your ‘Settings’ option. - Step 2
Tap Accounts & Passwords (account&password, mail, contacts, calendars, notes, remendars, phones, message etc..) - Step 3
And select Add Account (add account, icloud, any option) - Step 4
Tap Exchange (icloud, exchange, google, yahoo, aol, bing etc..) - Step 5
Enter your UQ email address in the format of user@uqconnect.edu.au. - Step 6
Then tap Next button - Step 7
Tap Sign In. - Step 8
Enter password. - Step 9
Select appropriate options and ‘save’ option.
Email Scams UQ Webmail Information
You need to be aware of email scams to ensure your identity and UQ data and systems are protected.
The security of your email account is your own responsibility. So make sure you’re able to identify, intercept, and report suspicious emails to help keep your account secure.
Criminals imitate trusted organizations to steal money and information. The UQ will never contact you for payment or personal information. If you think you have been scammed, contact IT Support.
Recognise email scams
Look out for these warning signs to help identify an email scam:
- The email is unexpected or not personalised.
- You’re told you need to do something urgently.
- The email is worded strangely with poor spelling and grammar.
- When hovering over links in the email, you notice unusual URLs – see how to identify a fake URL (PDF, 1.5 MB).
- The email has been sent from an unusual address or includes unusual ‘Reply-To’ addresses.
- You’re asked to enter personal information, open an attachment or link, or download a file.
If you have received a suspicious email, make sure you:
- Don’t open any links or attachments.
- Don’t enter any personal or account information.
- Report the email.
Prevent email scams
At UQ, they use robust security systems to detect and block suspicious emails. Some unwanted emails still make it past our filters.
To prevent email scams from being sent to your UQ email account:
- Don’t share your email address online unless you need to.
- Don’t provide your UQ email for personal activities, such as online shopping.
- Make sure you use your UQ email – rather than your personal email – for UQ work or study-related activities.
- Delete spam messages without opening them.
- Don’t respond to or unsubscribe from suspicious emails – scammers may use this to verify your email address.
- Follow the instructions to block suspicious email addresses in Outlook or Office 365.
Report email scams
If you receive a suspicious email in your UQ email account, follow the instructions to report it through your version of Outlook.
Outlook 2016, 2019 and 365
- Select the email.
- From the top ‘Home’ menu in the ‘Respond’ section, select ‘More’ > ‘Forward as attachment’.
- In the ‘To’ field, enter ‘user@uq.edu.au’.
- In the ‘Subject’ field, enter Suspected phishing email.
- Select ‘Send’ option.
Mac for Outlook
- Select the email.
- Choose the ‘Message’ toolbar menu.
- Select ‘Forward as attachment’.
- In the ‘To’ field, enter ‘user@uq.edu.au’.
- In the ‘Subject’ field, enter Suspected phishing email
- Select ‘Send’ option.
Outlook Web App
- Select ‘New’ from the top menu.
- Hover over the phishing email in your inbox and drag it into the new email.
- In the ‘To’ field, enter ‘user@uq.edu.au’.
- In the ‘Subject’ field, enter Suspected phishing email
- Select ‘Send’ option.
- If you receive a suspicious email that is unrelated to UQ, submit the details through Report a scam.
Change Email settings to avoid missing important emails
- First Click the ‘Other tab’ option.
- Click on the UQ message.
- Your On a mobile settings:
– click the elipsis
– then click Move to focused inbox
– then select Move this and all future messages - Your On the web settings:
– click Move to
– then select Always Move to Focused - Repeat this for any other UQ emails you receive that have a different email address.
ll future messages from those UQ email addresses will be delivered to the Focused tab.
Turn off the Focused Inbox
You can turn off the Focused Inbox so that all the emails you receive appear under one tab.
Outlook Mobile
- Select the menu button.
- Select the Settings cog.
- Use the Focused Inbox slider to turn Focused Inbox off.
Outlook on the web
- Select Settings cog.
- Move the Focused Inbox toggle to off.
